Want to write about wargames? Join us!

Will you be the next contributor to this blog?

Are you passionate about wargames and eager to write? Then why not join the Critical Hit editorial team? Here, we shine a spotlight on miniature games that are often overshadowed by industry giants and help their communities grow. Share your favorite wargame and give it the visibility it deserves!

The editorial team – how does it work?

The team is made up of several writers, each specializing in a particular miniature game:

While each of us has our favorite game, the editorial team works as a group: we support each other with proofreading, brainstorming, and sharing opinions. We all share the same goal—supporting the smaller communities of our favorite miniature games by offering them relevant, high-quality articles.

Interested, but not sure which game to write about?

Right now, we’d love to expand our coverage to include the following titles, and we’re looking for writers for them:

  • Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings
  • Warmachine
  • Infinity
  • Warcrow
  • Guild Ball
  • Shatterpoint
  • SAGA

You can also write about a game we already cover, but only if the current writer feels they need support. For example, Jack Brussell would like to pass the torch for Star Wars: Legion—which means that spot is open!

What can you write about?

You’ll have total freedom to choose your topics (painting tutorials, strategy guides, army lists, etc.) and your preferred style (casual tone, formal tone, prose, even something experimental).

That said, at Critical Hit we focus on articles with long-term valueevergreen content that stays relevant for years after publication.

  • What we avoid: short-lived news updates about the latest releases, which quickly become outdated.
  • What we love:
    • Strategy guides
    • Interviews with top players
    • Tutorials for creating terrain
    • Faction introductions

The ideal profile

At Critical Hit, we value smart games and well-crafted writing. If you’re passionate about miniature wargames and enjoy sharing your knowledge, you’re already halfway there!

What makes a great contributor:

  • Strong writing skills in English, with clear structure and flow.
  • Motivation and no fear of writer’s block.
  • An eye for what brings real value to readers and how to make topics engaging.
  • You’re a wargamer: whether veteran or beginner, you know the world of miniature games well.

Extra skills (a plus, but not required):

  • Experience with WordPress or similar tools.
  • Ability to explain complex ideas clearly.
  • Some knowledge of French (helpful for translating or interacting with the team).

What we expect from you

  • Research your topics in depth (rules, meta, army lists, etc.).
  • Format your articles in WordPress, proofread, and polish them before publishing.
  • Apply a few basic SEO & AEO practices (we’ll guide you—nothing too technical).
  • Share your articles on social media and on the Critical Hit Discord.
  • Publish around one article per month to keep the community engaged.
  • If possible, translate your articles into French (tools allowed of course).

Why join us?

At Critical Hit, we give wargames the visibility they deserve. Writing here means contributing to that mission, connecting with a passionate community, and sharpening your writing skills.

Yes, the role is volunteer-based—but it brings more than you might expect. Here’s what you’ll gain:

Experience: a great way to explore writing, build skills, and enrich your portfolio.
Visibility: no need to look for an audience—around sixty readers visit daily.
Creativity: choose topics, layouts, images… it’s your creative space.
Team spirit: exchange ideas and discoveries with fellow enthusiasts.
Confidence: get positive feedback, help players, and see your articles appreciated—it’s a real boost!
Promote your favorite game: more visibility means more players and more events near you. 😉

If this sounds like an adventure you’d enjoy, let’s talk! 🚀
