Are you considering diving into Star Wars Legion and reading this article after April 15, 2025? Then be cautious, as some Legion products available in stores may no longer be of any use to you. Here’s a quick overview of the rules update and its impact on your future purchases.
What Is the Star Wars Legion Refresh?
On April the 15th 2025, Atomic Mass Games, the publisher of Star Wars Legion, finalised the new version of the game’s rulebook. Dubbed the “Refresh” by the development team, this update marks a clear divide between what could be called the Classic and Modern eras of Star Wars Legion.
To symbolize this shift, Atomic Mass Games has redesigned the game’s logo:

Luckily for Touche Critique, orange has become the colour of Legion. \o/
How to Identify New Star Wars Legion Products
The logo change is a handy way to identify products in stores that are 100% compatible with the Modern era of Star Wars Legion.

In other words, if you purchase a box of miniatures with the Classic logo (on the left), it’s likely that the product contains outdated materials, such as:
- Command or unit cards (in most cases);
- Tokens (less common);
- Miniatures (rare).
These obsolete components will need to be updated.
How to Update Your Game Materials
To bring your materials up to date, visit the Legion Rules and Organized Play section. This area includes all downloadable documents necessary to update your rulebook and game cards at no cost.
Be Cautious with Impulse Purchases…
While most products from the Classic era are still usable and only require minor updates, some items demand closer attention.
List of Obsolete Boxes
Certain Legion products are no longer useful in Star Wars Legion 2.6. Examples include:
- Palpatine;
- Royal Guards;
- Pathfinders;
- Key Positions;
- Priority Supplies (limited usefulness: contains two bomb miniatures for the Destroy the Bunkers scenario).

Phase I and Phase II Clone Troopers Merge
During the Classic era, Phase I and Phase II Clone Troopers were distinct gameplay units, each with its own profile.
In the Modern era, these two units have been merged into a single Clone Infantry Unit. The difference between Phase I and Phase II is now purely aesthetic. Practically speaking, whether you acquire Phase I or Phase II clones, it won’t impact the composition of your army.

In Summary
The reboot introduced by the new version requires you to part with some game materials and update others (mainly by printing replacement content available for free). This update was launched digitally in July 2024 and finalised in April 2025, but the physical market won’t adapt to it until the third quarter of 2025.
