Launched in January 2022, the wargaming site Touche Critique celebrates its third anniversary. In this article, I review the past year, filled with changes and good news.
A look back at our third year
2024 was a year of transformation and growth for Touche Critique:
The site expanded its reach
First and foremost, the site became accessible to the rest of the world. Since March 2024, our articles have been available in English (whereas before they were only available in French). Remarkable advances in artificial intelligence have enabled us to translate articles quickly, cost-effectively, and with excellent quality.
Translating the blog allows us to reach a broader audience and better showcase the work of our writers. In 2024, around 17% of the site’s pageviews were for English-translated articles. Over time, this proportion will likely reverse, given that there are more English speakers in the world than French speakers (#flawlessLogic). In fact, in December 2024 alone, 49% of all pageviews were for the English version.
The editorial team grew
When I launched Touche Critique in January 2022, I had a clear vision: a well-structured blog about Star Wars: Legion, driven by a team of complementary writers producing intelligent and useful articles.
I spent a year and a half searching for writers within the Legion community… to no avail. While the site attracted readers, applications simply weren’t coming in. As time passed, I had a realization: what if the writers I was desperately looking for simply weren’t Star Wars: Legion players ? This would mean opening the site to other wargames and targeting a different audience… Why not, after all ? Most wargamers play at least two miniature games anyway.
One August evening, I decided to try my luck and posted a message on the Marvel Crisis Protocol Discord. Within less than 24 hours, I got a positive response. “Yes, I might be interested,” wrote Starpu. It was incredible! After spending a year and a half searching for Legion writers without success, I realized that I had been knocking on the wrong door all along.
I can’t thank Starpu enough for being the first to join this project. At last, we could speak in the plural and use the word “team.” Having two writers brought credibility to the project and I knew a snowball effect would follow. Less than a month later, AlanAnas joined us to write about A Song of Ice & Fire. (Thank you, Alan!)
Amazing, isn’t it? Sometimes, all it takes is a small adjustment to unlock a situation.
As we closed Touche Critique’s third year, we had three writers covering three wargames. And here’s the most exciting news: more writers are set to join us in 2025!
The site’s vision has evolved
Since the site was no longer exclusively dedicated to Star Wars: Legion after the arrival of AlanAnas and Starpu, it became necessary to redefine its purpose and mission.
We agreed to focus solely on wargames but never those from Games Workshop. Our goal was to promote and highlight lesser-known wargames and support the communities that need it most. If you visit the About page, you will now find this definition of Touche Critique:
Touche Critique is a platform dedicated to miniature games overshadowed by the giants of the industry. Our goal is to provide analysis, advice, and original content on wargames that deserve the attention of strategy and refined mechanics enthusiasts. These games, driven by passionate but modest communities, struggle to find a place in our collections. Yet, brimming with originality and depth, they deserve to be in the spotlight.
A Discord server for Touche Critique
Writing articles in multiple languages and about various games naturally required us to rethink how we communicate with our readers. How could we ensure that everyone could follow their favorite content in their preferred language?
To address this, we set up a Discord server. It functions as a personalized newsletter. You can select the games that interest you to receive notifications whenever a new article is published, as well as choose the language of your notifications. Convenient, isn’t it? Learn more.
The year in numbers
Let’s wrap up this article with some key figures:
